Brain stem evoked potential and pure tone hearing test results

2019-07-10

Although the test results are in decibels (dB), the brainstem evoked potential is 100dB and the pure tone is 100dB.

Equal, similar to the case of 38C (degrees Celsius) and 38F (Fahrenheit). However, degrees Celsius and Fahrenheit can be directly converted, but brainstem evoked potentials and pure tone audiometry results cannot be directly converted. This is because:

First, the stimulus signal used for pure tone audiometry is a single pure tone from 125-8000 Hz, and the brainstem evoked potential uses a mixed stimuli signal representing a high frequency of 2000-4000 Hz. Therefore, check

As a result, the former can reflect a relatively complete auditory condition, while the latter can only reflect high-frequency hearing conditions. Second, the brainstem evoked potential and pure tone audiometry use different zero-level criteria and cannot be directly converted. In general, if the brainstem evoked potential uses a small sample hearing level (nHL), the test result is 15-2OdB higher than the pure tone hearing threshold (for example, a patient with a pure tone threshold of 70dBHL, the result of the brainstem evoked potential test is often 85-9OdB. ); if the brainstem evoked potential uses sound pressure level (SPL), the gap is greater.
